Cyberpunk 2077 Item Upgrading Guide
Item upgrading is a key component to maximizing your gearing potential. It lets you add additional bonus stats on top of your base level item's value.
Each upgrade template comes with set of options that can be set up through the GUI. These options include the upgrade reference and the possibility of upgrading.
Upgrade components
The process for upgrading weapons, armor, and other gear in Cyberpunk 2077 was redesigned as part of the 2.0 update. Upgrade components are scattered throughout Night City. The item you wish to upgrade must also have an upgrade slot. If you select an item to upgrade it will show a preview of what the expected stats will be after upgrading, along with the necessary component or item needed. If you don't have the required level or resource to upgrade an item the button will say "Blocked."
Weapons and armor can be upgraded along with some trinkets and gathering tools. The upgrade slots on all of these can be filled with different upgrades that offer bonus features or extra effects while the equipment is being used. These upgrades are available by crafting, purchased from a vendor or looted.
There are two kinds of upgrade components that are gems and universal upgrades. Universal upgrades, which are like gemstones, can be placed in any type of equipment and provide less of a benefit than other types of upgrade components. The process of obtaining them is quite simple and they can be dropped by enemies, or looted all over the world. Gems however can be obtained by disassembling objects or completing specific tasks.
Upgrades can be replaced by new upgrades inside a weapon's upgrade slot, but doing so could destroy the previous upgrade. Other upgrades, with the exception for glyphs that are inserted in gathering tools, are not able to be removed from an item after they are placed. Infusions, which are placed in ascended equipment and legendary equipment, as well as enrichments that can only be recovered using an upgrade extractor or by salvaging the item with the highest-quality salvage kit, can be replaced once per hour.
Recycled Items
